A federal TV channel has shown a story about violation of rights of a large family with four children, one of whom is disabled. The story went on to tell that the Oryol Region authorities have been failing to provide the family with decent housing and to pay them a lump-sum payout since 2010. Journalists assume that it was indifference of officials that might have provoked the death of the children’s mother who had had to make the rounds of official instances to obtain justice.
After the story went on air, the Oryol Region Office of the Investigative Committee immediately launched a check and later opened an investigation in negligence under Part 1 of Article 293 of the RF Penal Code.
Investigators of the regional investigative authority are going to check the legality of the red tape and if there was cause-and-effect relation between the woman’s death and the officials’ attitude to the family’s problems. After the officials responsible for implementation of social guarantees have been identified, their actions will be assessed.
The local investigative authority filed a petition with the governor of Oryol Region requesting to take steps to restore the violated rights of the large family, that is to provide them with decent housing that would meet all their requirements.
