Izvestia: “Investigative Committee of Russia launches three probes into fire attacks on civilians in Donbass”

On October 16, the official website of the Investigative Committee of Russia reported that the Committee launched three more probes into fire attacks on civilians in Donbass.

The investigation established three more facts of illegal activities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Ukrainian National Guard. It is noted that, in every case, they used heavy weapons and aimed “to kill as many people as possible”.

It is noted that, on October 12, a fire attack hit gardeners’ partnership “Troyanda” in Kirov District of Donetsk. As a result, a civilian was wounded. The next day, facilities of social structure came under fire in Maryevka rural settlement near Lugansk, having claimed two lives. Also, on October 14, the Ukrainian Armed Forces hit a correctional facility in Shakhty rural settlement, having killed one of the convicts. “With reference to all the above, the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia launched probes into an offence under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of Russia (cruel treatment of civilians, use in a military conflict of means and methods of warfare, banned by an international treaty of the Russian Federation),” says the Committee In its statement. The armed conflict in Donbass began in the spring of 2014, and is ongoing. Residents of the region did not recognize the shift of power in the country in February, and declared Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics. In its turn, Kiev launched a so-called counter-terrorist operation against them, replacing it with a joint forces operation in April 2018.
