Sentence passed over ex-mayor of Tomsk guilty of office abuse

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Tomsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict ex-mayor of Tomsk Nikolai Nikolaychuk. He was found guilty of a crime under part 2 of article 286 of the RF Penal Code (abuse of power by head of local government).

The court and investigators revealed that the accused while serving as the mayor of Tomsk abused his authority by failing to arrange for the applications for allocation of money and auction to be sent and by making a sole decision to repair Mosckovsky tract street having promised the contractor that the work would be paid from the budget. As a result the contractor got funds from the budget for repairing the street.

The actions of the accused caused the municipality damage as the cost of the work was overrated by 4.7 million rubles.

The court has sentenced Nikolaychuk to 4 years of probation and ruled that the accused has to pay damages of 4 million 709 thousand rubles to the town of Tomsk to compensate for the damage done by his crime.
