In Belgorod Region, charges against former doctor of city hospital changed to graver ones


The Belgorod Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have charged 32-year-old former doctor of city hospital No 2 Ilya Zelendinov with a crime under part 4 of article 111 of the RF Penal Code (deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm entailing death by negligence).

According to investigators, on 29 December 2015, Zelendinov, fully aware that a patient in the E.R. could not resist him, punched him with his right hand in the face and with his left hand in the torso. The 55-year-old man fell on the concrete floor covered with linoleum and hit the back of his head.

With the university degree and experience of working as a doctor, Zelendinov knew about possible grievous consequences for the patient’s health from hitting him in the head, however, treated it with no due attention.

According to preliminary information, the patient died of brain edema resulted from the brain injury.

At present, investigators have requested court to place the accused in custody pending trial.
