The Krasnodar Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigation in an assault on 88-year-old home front laborer of the Great Patriotic War Valentin Zagornyan.
At night of 20 November 2015, two men aged 29 and 37 came to the veteran’s house in Tolstoy street in the town of Belorechensk to steal some money. When they smashed a window and got inside the house, the started hitting the elderly man demanding that he gave them his money. When they searched the house and found 40 thousand rubles, they took it and fled. The veteran sustained a brain injury, jaw fracture and some other injuries.
Considering that it was the war veteran who suffered and the crime widely resonated in the public, the Krasnodar Territory Investigations Directorate passed the case on for further investigation to the regional investigations directorate. The two men who had committed the crime were identified and detained in the shortest possible time.
The investigation has revealed that the said men robbed and killed two elderly women in Belorechensk in October 2015. At night of 18 October, the two men broke into the house, where two sisters aged 76 and 78 lived. They beat the elderly women with wooden sticks on heads and torsos and inflicted open brain injuries, skull cap and basal skull fractures and other injuries. The two women died at the scene. The criminals stole 30 thousand rubles and fled.
The two men are charged with crimes under paragraphs “a”, “g” and “h” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (robbery-related murder of two people committed by a group of people), paragraph “c” of part 162 (robbery involving grievous bodily harm to victims), and related to the robbery of the war veteran in Belorechensk (paragraph “c” of part 4 of article 162) and infliction of grievous bodily harm to him (paragraph “a” of part 3 of article 111). On 9 December 2015, the elderly man died in the hospital of his injuries. Therefore the investigators have decided to change the charges to part 4 of article 111 (deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm involving death of a person).
In addition, one of the accused stole 50 thousand rubles from the same elderly man in October 2013.
The investigators are carrying out a number of investigative operations to find out all the details of the crimes. The investigation is ongoing.
