Resident of Ulyanovsk charged with attempted murder of child and his relative

The Ulyanovsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigation into arson of a house that injured a small child (part 3 of article 30, part 2 of article 167 of the RF Penal Code). At present, a 44-year-old local resident has been charged with the said crime and an attempted murder of two (part 3 of article 30, paragraphs “a” and “f” of part 2 of article 105).

It was reported earlier that at night of 27 January 2016, about 3 AM, the accused threw a bottle with a combustible liquid in the window of a single-family house located in 2nd Sergey Lazo alleyway in Lenin district of Ulyanovsk. The bottle got into the room where a 56-year-old man and his 2-year-old grandson were asleep. The bottle fell on the child’s bed and started a fire. The man woke up and tried to put out the fire, but got burned. The boy with multiple burns was taken to a highly-qualified hospital and is now being treated.

At present, investigative and search operations are underway to find out all the details of the incident, the investigators are going to request the court to remand the accused in custody pending trial. Investigators’ priority version is that the victim had some debts. During the probe, the investigators are going to assess actions of law-enforcement officers to whom the victim reported that he had been threatened. The investigation is ongoing.
