In Novosibirsk Region, probe launched in media reports on tortures and selling of children for organ transplant

The Novosibirsk Region authorities of the Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation into crimes under Part 2, items “a” and “d” of Article 117 of the RF Penal Code (Torture) and Part 2, items “a” and “b” of Article 127.1 (Human Beings’ Trafficking), following a preliminary investigation into reports on tortures and trafficking if children published by mass media.

We remind that mass media published a report that on 30 December 2015, Vice-Consul of Russia delivered a 13-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother, who are citizens of Russia, to the city of Novosibirsk from Kirgizia. The Russian Embassy in Kirgizia had received a report that the children were tortured for a long period of time by their mother’s boyfriend, and after their mother had died in September 2015, they were sold to some gypsies for transplantation of organs.

According to investigators, from September to December 2015, unidentified people sold the two children to gypsies. In addition, the preliminary investigation has revealed that the children got beaten regularly and did not get food for a long time.

At present, a set of investigative and search operations are underway to find out all the details of the crime and identify people involved in it. The investigation is ongoing.
