Case over safety breach during mining causing death of miners in Komi Republic passed to Central Office of Investigative Committee

For thorough, impartial and fast investigation into the details and reasons for an accident that happened on 25 February 2016 in the Severnaya coal mine operated by AO Vorkutaugol located in the town of Vorkuta, Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin has ordered to pass the case on for further investigation to the Central Office of the Investigative Committee.

The Komi Republic authority of the Investigative Committee opened an investigation in a crime under Part 3 of Article 216 of the RF Penal Code (violation of safety rules during mining, construction or other operations entailing death of two or more people by negligence). By now, 26 miners are still unaccounted for and 4 more have died.

Following the order of the Chairman, investigators and criminalists of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee who have experience in investigating similar accidents have been sent to the Komi Republic.
