Aleksandr Mirilashvili found guilty of using violence against authority representative

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Moscow Directorate of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict Aleksandr Mirilashvili. He was found guilty of a crime under Part 2 of Article 318 of the RF Penal Code (use of violence endangering the lives or health of a representative of authority).

The court and investigators have revealed that journalists of a TV channel tried to take an interview from the so-called “diamond boy” responsible for a traffic accident and treated in a hospital. However, Miriashvili did not let them get to the young man. When police officers called by the journalists demanded the man to show his ID, he refused; moreover, he left the hospital, got into his car and ran over one of police officers, who tried to stop him. Miriashvili dragged the police officer on the bonnet of his car for several meters and then fled the scene.

As promised, the Investigative Committee finished this investigation. I point out that nobody in Russia is permitted to use violence against representatives of law-enforcement authorities and get away with it. The Investigative Committee has done its best to collect and process the evidence of Miriashvili’s involvement into the crime, so that court can make a decision about his guilt and punishment. I can assure that the investigation was impartial and thorough. This will be a lesson for those who will dare to endanger lives or health of law-enforcement officials when they are on duty.

The court has sentenced Mirilashvili to 2 years in a minimum-security penal colony.
