The Kurgan Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation into a crime under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide of two or more people).

According to investigators, On 30 May at about 4 PM, the police got a report that fragments of dead bodies of presumably two children were found on a fire scene in the settlement of Lopatki, Lebyazhye District. The debris is still being removed from the scene in order to find the bodies of two other children.

It has been revealed that in the afternoon of 30 May four children – two boys aged 6 and 3 years and two girls aged 6 months and 18 months were at home with their mother. The 25-year-old mother was drunk and the fire had started because of her careless handling.

The investigators have assigned fire and forensic medical inquiries to find out the cause for the fire and death of the children. Investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the incident.

The investigators are going to qualify the actions of the officials of social services who had failed to take proper measures to control the problem family. The investigation is under control of the senior officials of the local investigative authority.
