The meeting was also attended by the General Director of the Theater Tamara Mikhailova, manager of the company, people’s artist of Russia Vladimir Beilis, Deputy General Director Yuri Arkhipov, some of the heads of the divisions of the central office and Moscow and Moscow Region Directorates of the Investigative Committee, acting chancellor of the Investigative Committee Academy, director of the Nevsky Cadet School of the Investigative Committee. The meeting discussed ways of cooperation in the area of spiritual and moral education of young employees of the Investigative Committee and future investigators.

Mr. Bastrykin said that noted that owing to some objective reasons the employees of the Investigative Committee have somewhat limited access to cultural values: It is often hard and sometimes even impossible for investigators to enjoy the art under strained and complex conditions of their work. However, it is culture which together with professional training form moral basis of the investigator as the citizen and patriot.

“We all understand the great role culture plays in building the image of a state official and in development of Russia in general, in strengthening its authority and influence, and in keeping our state and national sovereignty whole. I am grateful to you, Mr. Solomin, for your and your company’s tireless and intensive organizational work and artistic activity. The characters persomified by your actors, the touch to classical and historical roots of Russian and Soviet plays teach us kindness, honesty and love,” Mr. Bastrykin said.

Mr. Solomin cited Aleksandr Ostrovsky who had said over 100 years ago that “there is no nation without the theater” and noted that the team of one of the oldest theaters of Russia was guided and will be guided by this principle. He said that the company continues traditions of great actors such as Boris Babochkin, Ivan Lyubeznov who came out to the stage of Maly Theater and “taught us to work with our hearts and develop the human soul with our art.”

Mr. Bastrykin said that the Investigative Committee’s cultural and business liaisons with many NGOs and institutions are growing and getting stronger. This way, the Committee has cooperation agreements with The Russian Association of Heroes (President Vladimir Shamanov), with interregional NGO The Club of the Heroes of the Soviet Union, Russian Federation and full holders of the Order of Glory (chairman of the board of administration Nikolai Antoshkin), with interregional NGO Outstanding Military and Naval Commanders of the Fatherland (President Aleksandr Sukharev), the agreement with The Unionof Writers of Russia is now pending.

The result of the meeting was the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the Investigative Committee and the State Academic Maly Theater. Endorsing the document Mr. Bastrykin expressed his confidence that the signing of the Agreement with one of the oldest theaters of Russia that has played a key role in developing Russian national culture will contribute to cultural and patriotic education of the younger generation. Mr. Solomin answered “You have taken up a kind and needed cause and we are ready to help you while we have strength.”
