Two more probes launched in Lake Syamozero tragedy in Karelia

The Karelia Office of the Investigative Committee has opened two more criminal cases into the death of children on Lake Syamozero and the events that preceded it. One case was opened against the staff of summer camp OOO Park-Hotel Syamozero suspected of a crime under Part 2 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code (provision of services that do not meet safety standards). The second case was opened against director of OOO Park-Hotel Syamozero Yelena Reshsetova, her deputy Vadim Vinogradov and other individuals suspected of a crime under Article 125 of the RF Penal Code (leaving to danger).

According to investigators, in the period between 3 and 18 June, the staff of the summer camp of OOO Park-Hotel Syamozero taught children before going on a boating trip on a lake. Such events, which the staff of the camp forced children to take part in are dangerous for their life and health.

On 18 June 2016, during the boating trip the tour group of teenagers and adults were caught into storm that split them up. Vadim Vinogradov and a group of children who made it to the shore, called Reshetova and told her about the situation they had and that he knew nothing about the second part of the group. Reshetova did nothing to rescue the children and told Vinogradov about it. They basically withheld information about the emergency situations, did not report it to authorities that may have started a rescue operation immediately.

At the moment the investigators are identifying all the people involved in the crimes and all the details.
