Probe launched against Kirov Region Governor Nikita Belykh

The Major Cases Department of the Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against governor of Kirov Region Nikita Belykh suspected of bribery (Part 6 of Article 290 of the RF Penal Code).

According to investigators, Nikita Belykh took a total of 400,000 euros (24.1 million rubles) of bribes both in person and via middlemen for doing favors to the briber and AO Novya Vyatka Ski Factory and OOO Forestry Management Company controlled by him, as well as for general patronage and connivance when the Kirov Region Government supervised the implementation of investment projects and business in Kirov Region.

Belykh was detained red-handed today while taking a bribe in a restaurant in Moscow. He was transported to the Investigative Committee for inquiry.

Anticipating hysterics supporters go off into in such cases, I want them to cool off: corruption crimes have no political colors. I would reckon that Khoroshavin and Gaizer can confirm it. Paraphrasing some common expressions that “Bribes have no smell… but glow sometimes. Bribe is bribe”, the only thing the investigators can guarantee is that the inquiry will be thorough and impartial.
