In Karelia, investigators ask to arrest medical assistant who ignored distress call from child

The Karelia Office of the Investigative Committee continues the investigation against a medical assistant of the emergency medical aid of the Suoyarvi Central District Hospital charged with a crime under Part 3 of Article 293 of the RF Penal Code (negligence).

According to investigators, on 18 June 2016, the accused was on call and got a distress call from a teenager who was in an emergency are. The teenager reported that two boats with children on board capsized on Lake Syamozero and that their life was in danger. The accused ignored the call, did not notify the hospital’s administration about the incident, neither she reported the distress call to the police and the Emergency Ministry nor logged the call in the journal. All that delayed the rescue operation and led to the death of children.

At the moment the investigators has asked a court to place the accused in custody pending trial.
