Investigative Committee Chairman launches probe against judge of Kuybyshevsky District Court of Omsk suspected of grand bribery

Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin has initiated criminal proceedings against 58-year-old judge of the Kuybyshevsky District Court of the city of Omsk Sergey Moskalenko suspected of a crime under Part 6 of Article 290 of the RF Penal Code (taking a bribe on a very large scale).

According to investigators, in the period between 2010 and 2015, judge Moskalenko was trying a case against former head of OOO OmStroi-2001 Company Viktor Berg, accused of stealing over 100 million rubles from 442 shareholders, non-payment of salaries to 373 workers of the company and some other crimes. For ruling to return the case to the prosecutor and for acquittal during the repeated trial, the judge in person got from the accused a bribe of cash and material services worth over 8 million rubles. However, as Berg’s dead body was found in Omsk in October 2015, Moskalenko closed the case against him.

Earlier the Omsk Region Qualification Board of Judges granted the request filed by the Chairman of the Investigative Committee and gave their consent to opening of the investigation against the judge.

By now the suspect has been discharged from his office. Investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
