In Khabarovsk, man gets life for series of felonies committed in several regions of Russia

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Khabarovsk Territory Office of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict a 32-year-old man who was found guilty of crimes under Part 2, items “a”, “c” and “j” of Article 105 (murder), Article 131 (rape), Article 132 (sexual abuse), Part 2 of Article 167 (deliberate destruction of property), Part 1 of Article 166 of the RF Penal Code (misappropriation of a vehicle without intention to steal it).

The court and investigators have revealed that on 8 May 2013, the perpetrator was released from jail where he had did time (4 years) for a sex crime. The man went to the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur to his wife and two children. He sexually abused his 4-year-old some for a year. On the night of 13 June 2014, he met a 35-year-old woman and they went for a drink. Later that night he raped her and killed. To conceal the murder, the man dismembered the body and hid some parts under a garage and some threw in a river. Sometime later, when he learned that the police were looking for him, he left Komsomolsk-on-Amur and went to Irkutsk Region, where he had been born. Most of the way he either walked or hitchhiked. In Amur Region he got acquainted with a guard of an agricultural enterprise. The got quarreled while they were talking and the accused stabbed the man, who died on the scene. To hide the crime, the accused set fire to a hut with the body inside. Part of the way the accused was going to make on a stolen tractor, but it got broken so he left the vehicle and walked the rest of the way. In early October 2014, he met a woman on a cemetery in a village in Irkutsk Region. He asked her if he could live at her place for some time. She brought him to her house and introduced to her 8-year-old daughter. On 4 October 2014, the man took the girl to the forest, raped her and then stabbed to death. Afraid that he might be caught he set off for Moscow, but was caught on the way there in Krasnoyarsk Territory for stealing a bike.

The investigators and criminalists did a lot of work. The man was transported to the city of Khabarovsk and put in a pretrial detention center. With all the evidence gathered against him he confessed to the crimes and pointed to a place where he had hidden the remains of the woman from Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The criminal records were compiled in 50 files. A lot of forensic inquiries were run, one of which, a forensic psychological and sexological one, revealed that the accused was pedophile. The operative support to the investigation was provided by law-enforcement officers from Amur and Irkutsk Regions, Krasnodar Territory. Officers of the Khabarovsk Territory Office of the Russian Ministry of the Interior were of great help.

The court has sentenced the man to life in prison.
