In Altai Republic, probe launched in abuse of office by mayor of Gorno-Altaisk

The Altai Republic Office of the Investigative Committee continues investigation against mayor of the town of Gorno-Altaisk Viktor Oblogin charged with stealing of property owned by the municipality and abuse of office while providing subsidies.

The regional offices of the Investigative Committee and of the Federal Security Services have run a number of search and investigative operations and revealed another fact of abuse of power by the mayor this time while providing municipal guarantees to a company. The Altai Republic Office of the Investigative Committee has opened yet another case against mayor Oblogin over a crime under Part 3, item “c” of Article 286 of the RF Penal Code.

The investigators have found out that the mayor aware of the unsatisfactory financial situation Building Management Company Tsentralnaya, limited liability company, was in, still provided it with at least 120 million rubles in municipal guarantees, the liability which the company was incapable of meeting. Based on writs of execution the town administration had to get loans from commercial banks and transfer them to pay off the company’s debts. The mayor’s actions caused Gorno-Altaisk a large damage of at least 87 million rubles.

At the moment, investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
