Following order of Alexander Bastrykin Investigative Committee accepts case over battery of doctor in Moscow Region hospital

An incident that took place the other day in a hospital in the town of Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Moscow Region has drawn a wide response today. A video published by mass media clearly shows how a man deliberately attacks a doctor delivering multiple blows to his head and torso. As a result of the attack the victim was taken to a hospital with a brain injury and some other traumas.

In order to find out all the details of the incident the investigative authorities have asked the Prosecutor’s Office to transfer the case from the police. As soon as Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin learnt about the incident, he has ordered that the case be accepted by the Moscow Region Directorate of the Investigative Committee and be investigated as a crime under Part 2 of Article 112 of the RF Penal Code (deliberate infliction of medium bodily harm to a person in connection with their job).

According to investigators, on 30 August 2016, a patient came to the central district hospital of Orekhovo-Zuyevo to an appointment with a laboratory assistant radiologist. She allegedly got exasperated by the fact that she was not allowed to jump the queue and called in her bother, who then beat up the doctor.

The investigators know that the attacker was previously convicted: last time in 2015 of deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm and was released from prison a few days ago. The man was apprehended and will soon be taken to an investigator for an interview. The investigators are going to question other witnesses and those involved in the incident and to find out the real motive of the assault.
