On 5 September 2016, a private household caught fire in the settlement of Krutaya Gorka in the city of Omsk. Two men and two women were killed in fire. The Omsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation into a crime under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide).

According to the data the investigators and criminalists have obtained after examination of the fire scene, the source of the fire was located on the veranda. The cause of the fire may have been careless handling of fire, and not faulty electric wiring, as it was mistakenly reported by some mass media. The victims, who look like 35-40 years of age, are being identified.

At the present moment, fire and forensic medical inquiries have been assigned to determine exact causes of the fire and deaths, investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
