Sverdlovsk Region Investigative Authority gives legal treatment to aggressive actions of persons wanting to settle domestic conflict by unlawful methods

Investigators of the Sverdlovsk Office of the RF Investigative Committee in cooperation with the police have carried out operations to find out all the details of an infamous incident that took place in Deputatskaya Street in the city of Yekaterinburg when two people got shot dead.

As a result of a careful analysis of the situation, many questionings of the people involved in the incident, examination of surveillance camera footage and lie detector checks the investigators have acquired impartial confirmation that the actions of the group of people who had arrived to settle a matter to a private house in Deputatskaya Street have signs of a crime under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 212 of the RF Penal Code (organization and involvement in mass riots). An investigation into the said crime was opened today.

The grounds for the case was the fact that the some 16 aggressive people armed with knives and guns had arrived in 7 vehicles to the crime scene not only to intimidate, but use their weapons against those inside the house in Deputatskaya Street. Such kind of circumstances suggest obvious unlawful nature of actions of a large group of accomplices which are believed to have been aimed at doing bodily harm to the citizens and their property, creating danger for other people which under the current laws qualifies for the organization of and involvement in mass riots.

The investigative group is carrying out first-priority investigative operations to register the evidence and identify the suspects. At the same time, they are going to look into the reasons and circumstances that had contributed to the crimes. Mass media and general public will be additionally informed about the progress and results of the investigation. The head of the regional investigative authority has assumed personal control over the investigation.

It should be noted that the persons who had organized and were involved in the mass riots, were absolutely wrong when after the conflict they had decided to use force to settle the matter with their opponents. Such methods are absolutely intolerable in the civilized society and constitutional state. Anyone who disturbs public security by their offences must bear in mind that the current laws provide for heavy responsibility including long-term incarceration.
