In Sverdlovsk Region, probe launched into death of teenager on railway

The Ural Transport Investigation Authority has opened an investigation into a crime under Part 2 of Article 263 of the RF Penal Code (violation of safety standards for the traffic and operation of railway transport involving death of a person by negligence).

According to investigators, on 9 September 2016, at 2:55 PM, local time, a train travelling from Kamensk-Uralsky to Yekaterinburg-Passazhirsky ran over and injured a 16-year-old teenager on the 12th km of an even track between stations Koltsovo and Lechebny on the Sverdlovsk railway, a branch of OAO Russian Railways. The teenager was crossing the tracks with his earphones in, so he did not hear the train's whistle. Though the locomotive driver applied emergency braking, the train hit the boy, who died on the scene.

By now the investigators have finished examination of the scene and the teenager’s body has been sent to the city of Yekaterinburg for an autopsy to find out case of death. The investigators are looking for witnesses and are questioning teenager’s relatives, the train crew and are conducting other investigative operations to find out all the details of the incident.
