Probe launched against resident of Kaluga Region suspected of killing her foster daughter

The Kaluga Region Office of the Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation against a 28-year-old resident of the town of Lyudinovo suspected of a crime under Part 2, item “c” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder of a child).

According to investigators, from 23 to 25 September 2016, the suspect beat her 4-year-old foster daughter on the head. The girl died of injuries at home. To hide the crime, the woman and her 32-year-old husband took the body to a forest and buried it there. They reported the girl missing to put the police on a false scent. The questioning was well planned so the parents gave statements contrary to each other. At first, they both insisted that the girl had left alone on the night of 25 September. However, later the man explained that his wife had beaten the girl not long before she went missing. Apology for a mother had to confess.

By now, the parents have been detained. Soon an investigator is going to request a court to place her in custody pending trial. The investigators continue questioning the man and carrying out necessary investigative operations after which his actions will be also qualified as a crime.

The investigators are going to carefully analyze all the reasons and conditions that had made the crime possible and also will give a legal treatment to actions (omission) of social services that supervise the family. They are going to check both the girl’s living conditions and if the family was regularly checked. A number of forensic inquiries have been assigned. The investigation is ongoing.
