Judo competition for RF Investigative Committee Chairman’s cup among juniors held in Tyumen

On 24 September, at the Olympian center Tyumen-Judo in the city of Tyumen, Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin opened one might say traditional annual All-Russian judo team competition among juniors under 18 for the cup of the Investigative Committee Chairman dedicated to the memory of young heroes and employees of the Investigative Committee killed in the line of duty.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Investigative Committee’s Central Office, employees of the regional office, Governor of Tyumen Region Vladimir Yakushev, Vice-President of the Russian Judo Federation Valentin Khabirov, Vice-Chairman of the National Veterans’ Organizations Associations “Union of Investigation Veterans” Yury Lekanov and representative of a number of other sports and non-governmental organizations.

In his welcoming speech Mr. Bastrykin noted that “the interest to its impressive, spectacular martial art, its popularity with spectators are rising year after year. And this is only natural as judo combines unique fighting technique and distinctive profound philosophy, it trains will and character, brings best in people, teaches to make decisions quickly and most importantly to treat your opponent with respect.”

It’s no coincidence that Tyumen hosted the 6th championship, because Tyumen natives won the 5th champion in Samara in September 2015. Specialists in the whole world recognize that the Olympic Center Tyumen-Judo is unique, and according to the President of the International Judo Federation, the venue is one of three best judo-specialized sports venues in the world. In 2011, Tyumen hosted the world judo championship in absolute weight category, plus the Center became a venue for 5 Russian Championships and more than 100 All-Russian and international tournaments. Mr. Bastrykin noted great work done by the Russian Judo Federation and Tyumen Region, as well as by all organizers: “It’s very important that you could bring together young athletes of our country and properly organize this massive sports event celebrating youth and friendship.”

The competition has been held annually since 2012 on the initiative of the Investigative Committee. The first championship was held in 2012 in the town of Noginsk just outside Moscow, the native town of Yevgeny Tabakov, a boy who gave his life to protect his sister from a rapist. The second one was held in 2013 in the city of Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, a place of birth of another young hero – Danil Sadykov, who died while rescuing a 9-year-old boy in May 2012, in the town of Naberezhnye Chelny. The boy accidentally fell into a fountain which was under tension. Danil Sadykov rushed to save the boy, so both of them were electrified, but only Sadykov died. The third championship was held in 2014 in North Caucasus, in the town of Nevinnomyssk, Stavropol Territory, the area with rich sports history which has raised not one generation of Russian athletes who always represent our country on world’s sports events in the most proper manner. The tradition of holding children’s and youth judo championships was continued by the Udmurt Republic in April 2015, the town of Izhevsk hosted the championship dedicated to the 70th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945. The 5th championship was held in the city of Samara, the gem of the Russia’s Middle Volga area.

The Investigative Committee has always honored the memory of its heroes whose deeds stand firm. The families of those killed in the line of duty attended the event as guests of honor. The present at the ceremony first saw the video The Heroic Deed, after which Mr. Bastrykin expressed special gratitude to the families of the killed teenagers – Yevgeny Tabakov, Danil Sadykov and Andrei Kasimov and of Investigative Committee’s employees killed in the line of duty, for raising decent citizens of their country.

10 teams consisting of teenagers under 18 years of age, which is about 100 athletes of Ural Federal District and from other regions of Russia – Bashkiria, Tatarstan, Udmurtia, Moscow Region, took part in the competition.

The Tyumen Region team won the first place, team from Tatarstan the second and from Sverdlovsk Region and Bashkortostan shared the third.

Concluding the event, Mr. Bastrykin thanked the organizers and wished athletes further success and victories.
