In Sverdlovsk Region, local resident found guilty of negligent homicide of woman

A court has recognized the evidence collected by the Sverdlovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict a 64-year-old local resident. He was found guilty of a crime under Part 1 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code (negligent homicide).

The court and investigators have established that on the morning of 28 July 2016, the accused threw out of his balcony on the 16th floor of an apartment building in Sergei Esenin Boulevard in the city of Yekaterinburg a metallic construction weighing about 20 kilos so that he could later turn it to scrap metal. At that moment a 40-year-old woman was walking near the building with her child. The metallic construction fell onto the woman and a short time later she died of injuries. Her small child was not injured.

A lot of work was done during the investigation to find and document evidence. The accused pled guilty and his statement was checked on the site. An investigator questioned a lot of resident of the building who confirmed that the accused had thrown garbage from his balcony before. In addition, detailed characteristic was made of the man, who had not paid his house bills which amounted to about 200 thousand rubles, but had had enough money to abuse alcohol. Forensic medical and technical inquiries were run to find out the exact reason of woman’s death and the circumstances of the tragedy caught on surveillance cameras.

The court has sentenced the accused to 1.5 years of community service and that he should pay 10% of his income to the state. He is also due to pay 300,000 rubles of damages to the relatives of the killed woman.
