In Khabarovsk, two 17-year-old girls charged with animal abuse and other crimes taken to custody

During a probe against two 17-year-old girls charged with animal abuse (Part 2 of Article 245 of the RF Penal Code) the Khabarovsk Territory Office of the Investigative Committee has established that they were involved in other crimes: robbery, hatred incitement and blasphemy. The investigators were able to do that thanks to cooperation with operative units of the Khabarovsk Territory Offices of the Interior Ministry and Federal Security Service. The investigators have run more than 200 operations (searches, examinations, interviews, face-to-face interrogations) and assigned more than 20 examinations and inquiries in a short time.

According to investigators, one of the accused met a 20-year-old man online with the intention of committing a crime. She brought him to an abandoned building, where the other of the accused was waiting for them armed with a bat and an air gun. The girls attacked the young man demanding money. The victim tried to fight back, but got hit on the jaw. He managed to run away eventually and did not report the crime to the police.

The investigators also revealed that one of the accused posted on her page in a social network pictures clearly expressing disrespect to the society and blasphemy.

The investigators also believe that one of the girls and an 18-year-old young man filmed and cut a social-disparagement-related video involving a man. They posted the video in a social network and showed to the man’s colleagues in order to humiliate him.

The Khabarovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee have opened a number of investigations in crimes under Part 2 of Article 162 (robbery), Part 1 of Article 148 (public actions expressing clear disrespect to the society and blasphemy) and Part 1 of Article 282 of the RF Penal Code (hatred incitement). Based on the evidence gathered by the investigators the two suspects have been charged with robbery.

But this was not the end of the girls’ criminal activities: the investigators have discovered that they damaged vehicles and filmed the process. The investigators found out the names of thee owners of damaged vehicles who explained that they had not reported it to the police. The criminal materials available have been forwarded to the Khabarovsk Territory police department to decide whether the girls are under criminal or administrative liability.

On 9 November 2016, following the order of Investigative Committee’s Chairman Alexander Bastrykin the animal abuse case opened against the girls (part 2 of Article 245 of the RF Penal Code) was handed over to the Investigative Committee’s Head Office (based in the city of Khabarovsk). After the evidence has been documented for other charges (Part 2 of Article 162, part 1 of Article 148, Part 1 of Article 282 of the RF penal Code), the case will also go to the same office to be joined with the previous one and investigated.

On 11 November 2016, a court has granted a request filed by the regional investigative authority and ruled to take both of the accused in custody pending trial. They are now in a pretrial prison in Khabarovsk, while their 18-year-old accomplice is being detained.
