In Moscow, probe launched in child abuse in children’s home

The Moscow Directorate of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation into negligence under Article 293 and improper discharge of duty in raising minors under Article 156 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, on the evening of 24 November 2016, a 44-year-old social teacher got aggressive with a 12-year-old boy in an orphanage in Polyarnaya Street in Moscow. The man hit the boy on his head and the boy ran away from the orphanage. The boy was in stress for a long time and was afraid to go back to the facility.

The investigators have ordered a forensic medical examination which will show the degree of physical damage done to the child.

The investigators are going to question the administration and staff of the facility to find out the reasons why the boy was not protected by the people responsible for the safety of children staying in the children’s home. Inmates of the facility are also going to be questioned in due order to see if there have been other similar instances of violence. The investigation is ongoing.
