Resident of Kirov Region found guilty of killing 6-year-old girl

A court has recognized the evidence collected by the Kirov Region Office of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict 27-year-old Yevgeny Salangin. He was found guilty of killing a child under Part 2 of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code.

The court and investigators have revealed that on the evening of 16 July 2016, Salanging was drinking alcohol with a friend of his in a house on the suburbs of the town of Kirov. Later in the evening a family of local residents with a girl arrived. While the adults were outside, the child was playing in the house. At some point, the girl’s parents noticed that Salangin was nowhere to be seen, as was the girl. The man had invited the child to take a walk, took her to a nearby forest and killed her. The girl’s body was found later in the place he pointed to. A forensic medical inquiry showed that the girl had died of asphyxiation. The man was taken in custody pending trial.

Different kinds of inquiries were run, including a forensic medical, DNA, chemical and psychiatric to find what had happened. The psychiatric evaluation showed that the man was fully able to appreciate his actions during the crime. The man pleaded guilty.

The investigators restored every minute of the girl’s last day in detail to see the circumstances surrounding her death. Guided by missions and principles of criminal proceedings and pointing to public danger of the crime committed against the child, the investigators collected and documented an exhaustive body of evidence.

The court has sentenced Salangin to 21 years to be served in a maximum security correctional facility. In addition, he will be committed to a psychiatric clinic. The court also ruled that he is to pay 3 million rubles of damages to the injured party.
