In Novosibirsk Region, resident of Novokuznetsk to stand trial for killing woman

The Novosibirsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has finished criminal proceedings against a 34-year-old resident of the town of Novokuznetsk charged with a murder under Part 1 of Article 105 and larceny under Part 2, item “c” of Article 158 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, dead body of a 38-year-old woman with signs of strangulation was found on 20 June 2016 in a flat in Uritsky Street in Zheleznodorozhny District of Novosibirsk. 2 mobile phones, a chain, a pendent, a purse with 2 bank cards inside, and 15,000 rubles in cash were stolen from the flat.

As a result of well-planned investigative and search operations an investigator and police officers identified and detained a suspect – a 34-year-old resident of the town of Novokuznetsk previously convicted of a murder, who had known the victim for a long time and had called her not long before the crime. Additionally, the SIM card registered on his name, was put inside one of the stolen phones shortly after the murder.

Complex and meticulous work was done to identify the suspect. The information on him and his involvement in the crime was gotten both during the operations and interrogations of witnesses, as well as a careful examination of the crime scene during which the investigators seized objects relevant for the probe.

During a preliminary probe, the investigators revealed that in early June 2016, the man arrived in Novosibirsk and met the woman he had known before. After committing the crime, he left the city, but failed to escape from law-enforcers and was detained in the city of Nizhny Novgorod. The investigators searched the man’s residence and seized objects relevant for the probe, including the things stolen from the victim’s flat. Joint operations of the investigators and the police helped to locate the killer. The information acquired was then effectively used to detain him.

During an interrogation the accused confessed to the crime and explained that he had committed it because he had had a quarrel with the woman as she had been seeing some other man. In a fit of rage he had written a note and tossed it on the victim’s body, had taken valuable things and left. This circumstance became the reason for the investigators to put forth a version of a job-related murder, but they also checked other versions as well, including the one that the note was just a decoy to conceal the real motive.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case with the signed indictment has been referred to court.
