In Komi Republic, local resident found guilty of killing child and gets life

A court has recognized the evidence collected by the Komi Republic Office of the RF Investigative Committee sufficient to convict resident of the town of Sosnogorsk Vasiliy Satinov, 37. He was found guilty of murder and sex abuse of a girl under Part 2, items “c” and “j” of Article 105, Part 5 of Article 131 and Part 5 of Article 132 of the RF Penal Code.

The court and investigators have established that in April 2016, an 11-year-old girl from the town of Ukhta was reported missing. She had left home in the afternoon and never came back. The criminal proceedings were initiated after the search efforts had come up empty.

During the search and the probe, the investigators revealed that Satinov had been involved in the crime. He had had previous convictions, including the one for an adolescent sex crime and lived in a summer cottage in Ukhta. They searched the cottage and found the girl’s body in the courtyard.

The investigators believe that the man saw the girl on a bus stop and invited her to his cottage house. The drunken man raped the girl and then fearing the punishment strangled her and hid the body in a greenhouse.

During the investigation he admitted his guilt and gave a detailed account of the crime and confirmed it on the scene. His guilt was also confirmed by testimonies of witnesses and conclusions of forensic medical, DNA and psychiatric examinations. The psychiatric evaluation showed that the accused had sexual disorder in the form of pedophilia which did not rule out his sanity, and he was to be committed to a mental hospital.

The court has sentenced Satinov to life in a special-security correctional facility and treatment by a psychiatrist.
