The Tomsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation into a murder of a small girl in the settlement of Svetly, the city of Tomsk under Part 2, item “c” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code.

A preliminary investigation has found out that on 2 December 2016, about 8 PM, a girl was taken to Children’s Emergency Hospital No 2 with a brain injury from a block of flats. She died about 10 PM in the same hospital.

A 38-year-old man living in the same building was detained on suspicion of the crime on 3 December 2016. He has been charged and the Oktyabrsky District Court of Tomsk has been asked to take him in custody pending trial.

Investigators are carrying out a preliminary investigation: they have examined the crime scene, are questioning witnesses, have seized the suspect’s clothes, have assigned forensic medical, dactylographic and DNA examinations. The investigation is ongoing.
