Probe launched against investigator

The RF Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against senior investigator of major cases of the Investigative Committee’s Head Office Lieutenant Colonel of Justice Alexander Sorokin suspected of taking a bribe on a very large scale under Part 6 of Article 290 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, Sorokin took from a lawyer a bribe of 50 thousand US dollars for a number of procedural operations regarding a case he was investigating at the time.

Sorokin has been detained and arrested.

The investigation has been assigned to the first department of the Investigative Committee’s Head Office.

The RF Investigative Committee has always responded to each fact of violation of the law, including to acts of corruption, quickly and firmly independent of ranks, positions and former services. The senior officials of the Committee have never had any doubts about initiating criminal proceedings against their employees if there were grounds to do that.  It is constant work done to prevent and reveal corruption in its ranks in the first place, which is one of the main elements of the Committee’s activity and which gives us not only legal but moral right to respond firmly to any acts of corruption, including those among officers of other law-enforcement authorities and officials of any rank or position.
