In Leningrad Region, probe launched in death of five in fire

The Leningrad Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in negligent homicide of two or more people under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code after bodies of five people, including 3 children were found at a fire scene.

According to investigators, dead bodies of a 55-year-old man and 48-year-old woman, and three children aged 5, 10 and 14, were found on the evening of 9 December 2016, in the settlement of Ulyanovka, Tosno District, Leningrad Region. Another child had managed to survive the fire. The family is known to have been living in the house for more than 10 years.

By now the investigators have finished examining the fire scene and are now carrying investigative operations to find out all the circumstances surrounding the fire. Necessary forensic examinations have been assigned.

Different versions of the fire are being considered. The investigation is ongoing.
