In Omsk, ex-con suspected of taking hostage

The Omsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against ex-convict suspected of taking a hostage using weapons or objects that can be used as weapons under Part 2, item “d” of Article 206 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, at about 10 AM, 1 February 2-17, the 41-year-old man, who was previously convicted many times of larceny and other crimes against property, entered a house in 11th Severnaya street through an open door. He took a 13-year-old girl hostage threatening her with a knife and denuded to give him a dose of heroin. The perpetrator was disarmed and detained in the shortest time by officers of the Omsk Region Office of the Interior Ministry supported by the Russian Guard. The child was unharmed.

The investigators have revealed that after having been released from prison the man have been living in the settlement of Nadezhdino, Omsk District. On 31 January he arrived in Omsk and checked in a hotel located near the house he attacked. On 1 February, the man, presumably under the influence of drugs, got away from the hotel through a window in his room on 2nd floor and entered the first house he saw. The investigators have searched the room and found bottles with alcohol and a syringe with unidentified substance.

At present, the investigators are examining the crime scene and are conducting other investigative operations to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime. The suspect is planned to be interrogated, forensic inquiries are going to be ordered, including psychological evaluation of the man, who is now expecting a custodial restraint.
