In Belgorod Region, senior officials of Investigative Committee order pre-investigative check into fire in house occupied by large family reported by media

Following an order of senior officials of the Investigative Committee a pre-investigative check has been launched by the Belgorod Region Office of the Investigative Committee into a fire in a house occupied by a large family reported by media.

On 8 February 2017, a TV channel broadcast a story that a family with a lot of children lost their home due to a fire started by faulty electric wiring in the settlement of Teterevino, Prokhorovka District, Belgorod Region.  The family lived in a 50-year-old wooden house with no gas supply. It has never been repaired and the wiring has never been changed.

Thanks to the courage of one of the daughters alone nobody was hurt in the fire, she saved all five of her brothers and sisters, but in most cases such situations unfortunately end up tragically. The girl was not frightened and kept her head. She displayed heroism, which wouldn’t have been needed if not for criminal omission of adults.

Investigators are going to find out the role of each one who was responsible for social support to the family; in particular, the investigators are going to give legal assessment to the actions of officials of the Prokhorovka District Administration for negligence and of officials of social services. If there are sufficient grounds, all the guilty ones are going to be prosecuted. In addition, during the check, the investigators are going to estimate the help provided by state authorities and social services to the family who have to take shelter at their relatives’ place. A procedural decision will be made following the check.
