In Tatarstan, local resident charged with grievous bodily harm by negligence

The Tatarstan Office of the Investigative Committee has finished criminal proceedings against former chief of anesthesiology and resuscitation department of Nizhnekamsk maternity hospital No 1 54-year-old Zaka Makhamadyarov charged with grievous bodily harm by negligence due to malpractice under Part 2 of Article 118 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, on 16 December 2008, a 27-year-old 33-34 weeks-pregnant woman was accepted to the maternity hospital. She underwent a caesarian cessation on 17 December for medical reasons. She received pain killers via an IV to her spine. The next morning she was examined by Mukhamadyarov who prescribed her a necessary medicine and three hours later in violation of the protocol the IV was got out from the woman following the decision of the accused. According to investigators, the unfounded decision made by the doctor led to paralysis of the patient’s lower body.

The man keeps denying the charges. The investigators have enough evidence so the criminal case with the signed indictment has been referred to court.
