Udmurtia’s head Alexander Solovyov charged with bribery

The Investigative Committee’s Major Cases Directorate continues investigation against head of Udmurtia Alexander Solovyov.

He is charged with two counts of taking a bribe by a state official on a very large scale under part 6 of Article 290 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, in 2014-2016, Solovyov took cash bribes of 139 million rubles and a share worth 2.7 million rubles from representatives of companies engaged in the construction of bridges over the Kama and Bui rivers near the town of Kambarki in Udmurtia. For the illegal reward Solovyov was to make sure that the work was paid immediately by the federal and regional budgets and that the companies got licenses for geological exploration of subsurface area and extraction of sand and sand-gravel.

The accused has been placed in custody today. The investigation is ongoing.
