Probe finished against former Kursk Region deputy prosecutor

The Head Office of the Investigative Committee has finished criminal proceedings against firmer deputy prosecutor of Kursk Region Roman Korolyov charged with violation of road code entailing death of a person under Part 3 of Article 264 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, on 26 September 2015, Korolyov was driving his Volkswagen Touareg in Vokzalnaya Street in the settlement of Cheremisinovo, Kursk Region with a speed of more than 100 kmph, while there was a speed limit of 40 kmph. The accused drove to the right side of the road and ran over a local woman who died on the scene.

Korolyov denied all the charges, but his guilt was proved by the evidence.

The investigation was hampered, when some unidentified people fed electric power of high voltage to the car on a paid parking lot to damage the airbag control module which contained the data on the vehicle’s speed at the moment of the accident.

The investigators revealed that this was not the single occasion on which the accused violated the road code, on the contrary, such driving style was normal for Korolyov. On the same day, before he ran over the pedestrian, he had speeded on two more occasions. In 2011-2015, former deputy prosecutor violated the road code 126 times. On some occasions his speed was higher than maximum permitted by 80 kmph. Being an experienced driver he could not but realize that that could lead to tragedy.

The investigators have enough evidence so the criminal case has been forwarded to the Prosecutor General for the indictment to be signed.
