Ex-head of special construction administration jailed

A court has recognized the evidence collected by the Investigative Committee as sufficient to convict former director of the Tyumen Region Special Construction Administration, a state-funded institution, Mikhail Mezentsev. He was found guilty of getting a bribe under Part 6 of Article 290 of the RF Penal Code.

The court and investigators have revealed that from December 2008 to November 2011, Mezentsev via Sergei Korobov, the CEO of Stroimontazh, a close corporation, got from CEO of Lamitec-Medicals GmbH (Germany) Vladimir Reizvih a bribe of 845 thousand US dollars. The money was to pay for actions to the benefit of Reizvih and Lamitec-Medicals GmbH giving them possibility to supply high-tech medical equipment which it actually supplied at inflated price to Korobov’s company Stroimontazh, which was a general contractor in constructing regional oncological clinic in the city of Tyumen. In its turn Stroimontazh supplied the equipment at the same inflated price for state needs.

The proceedings against Korobov was severed to form a separate lawsuit, he is now internationally wanted.

The court has sentenced Mezentsev to 8 years in jail and a fine of 50.8 million rubles. He was taken in custody in the court room.
