Investigative Committee Chairman orders check in TV coverage on violation of rights of residents of house in Sverdlovsk Region part of which was recognized as dangerous

On 23 May 2017, a federal TV channel showed a coverage saying that residents of an apartment building in the settlement of Veresovka, Pervouralsk Urban District fear the condition of the building after its reconstruction.

Chairman of the Investigative Committee has ordered the Sverdlovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee to check the media report.

According to the coverage, the residents have to live in the dangerous house after a gas explosion took down one section of it in 1995. Local authorities resettled only the residents of the collapsed section and isolated. As part of the building is going to be taken down, the rest of the residents were offered to move to barracks for the period of so-called repairs. The author of the story points out that some of the money allocated for reconstruction were embezzled.

At present, officials of the Pervouralsk Department of the Investigative Committee are working to give impartial and tough legal assessment to the actions of officials responsible for providing comfortable and safe living conditions and for recognizing the explosion-damaged building fit for living.

As preliminary operations the investigators are going to question the residents of the said house and officials, request and analyze necessary documents regarding the situation in which rights and legal interests of the residents appear to be violated.

A procedural decision will be made following the check.
