The Krasnoyarsk Territory Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in neglect of duty under Part 2 of Article 293 of the RF Criminal Code after two people died in a fire in the town of Kansk.

According to investigators, a fire started in OOO Sin-I, a limited liability company, at about 4 PM, on 24 May 2017. The fire spread to nearby detached houses due to hot weather and strong winds. Putting out fire in a house in Narodnaya Street responders found a burned body of a male. A female body was found near a house in 1 Initsiativnaya Street. Both victims are now being identified. By now 52 houses have been razed.

An emergency operations center has been set up and some additional steps have been taken to prevent mass fires. 2 teams of experienced investigators have been dispatched to the towns of Kansk and Lesosibirsk to run the probe. There are 20 criminalists in all. The investigators are going to assess the efficiency of the measures taken by state officials and local government to prepare for such emergencies and to make sure that forces and facilities were ready to respond to fires.
