Investigative Committee’s Central Office assumes control over some checks run into media reports

In accordance with criminal procedure laws the Investigative Committee is to run checks into media reports on committed or plotted crimes. A number of such reports were revealed yesterday during monitoring news on some federal TV channels.

During today’s monitoring of mass media Russia’s Investigative Committee has revealed a number of reports being checked by the regional offices of the Investigative Committee at the moment.

Several TV channels showed a coverage about a few teenagers who went up to the roof of an apartment building in the town of Dimitrovgrad, Ulyanovsk Region and made a video of one of them leaned over the edge of the building holding the railing. The Ulyanovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee launched a check into that report. They are going to give legal assessment to the actions of officials of the company responsible for the building and whose duty it was to restrict unauthorized access to the roof.

There was also a report that children have to go to a school under the threat of collapse in the settlement of Okhli, Dagestan. The report says that there was an incident in that school in 2016 when a wall collapsed in a computer science classroom. It was a miracle that nobody of the children was hurt. The Dagestan Office of the Investigative Committee is now running a check in unsafe services. Investigators are going to interview the teachers and students of the said school, parents of the students and officials. They are also going to request and analyze necessary documents.

Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin has ordered the Central Office to supervise those checks.

All the circumstances of the incidents are being carefully looked into. If the stated information proves to be true, probes will be launched and those responsible will be held accountable.
