Ex-governor of Chelyabinsk Region Mikhail Yurevich remanded in custody in absentia

The Sverdlovsk Region Court has canceled today the decision made by an inferior court and ruled to remand former governor of Chelyabinsk Region (2010-2014) Mikhail Yurevich in custody in absentia.

The fourth department of the Investigative Committee’s Directorate (based in the city of Yekaterinburg) continues criminal proceedings against Mikhail Yurevich charged with bribery under Part 6 of Article 290 and solicitation to slander under Part 4 of Article 33, Part 2 of Article 128.1 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, Yurevich regularly got bribes from Chelyabinsk Region Health Minister Vitaly Teslenko which eventually amounted to 26 million rubles. In addition, investigators believe that Yurevich solicited Oleg Grachev appointed on the position of the first vice-governor of Chelyabinsk Region to spread slander about the activity of the Chelyabinsk Region Court chief justice. This slander was broadcast by the Channel One in December 2012 and in November 2013 was refuted by the same channel based on the decision of the Ostankino District Court of Moscow.

Yurevich failed to turn up for interrogations on several occasions, so now he is on an international wanted list.
