Probe launched in road accident in Kolomna District injuring children

Following an order of the Investigative Committee’s Chairman the Moscow Region investigative authorities have opened an investigation in unsafe services under Part 1 of Article 238 of the RF Criminal Code after a traffic accident that took place in Kolomna District and injured 5 children.

Investigators have established that at 5:44 AM on 2 June 2017, two passenger buses operated by Avtokolonna 1417 and branch of Mostransavto collided at kilometer marker 102 of M5-Ural motorway near the settlement of Raduzhny, Kolomna District, Moscow Region. Both buses were travelling to Moscow. 14 people were taken to the Kolomna Central District Hospital with different injuries. 10 of them remain in hospital including 5 children.

One of the buses was en route from the town of Kolomna to the town of Istra in Moscow Region to Safety School competition organized by the Moscow Region Education Ministry. There were 8 children aboard that bus (students of Panovo school, Kolomna District, Moscow Region) and two accompanying persons, who were hospitalized after the accident. Both the trip and the vehicle were provided by the Moscow Region Education Ministry.

The transporting services may not have met safety standards.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee has ordered that the investigators look into all the reasons for the accident, the reasons for the trip, find out if rules and quality of the trip met requirement set by the law and examine carefully all the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The investigators are going to give legal assessment to the actions of the officials who organized and carried out the transportation of the children. The investigation is ongoing.
