In Moscow, man found guilty of torturing and beating child

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Moscow Directorate of the Investigative Committee as sufficient to convict Artyom Bazhenov of torturing a minor under Part 2, item “d” of Article 117 and deliberate infliction of medium bodily harm to a minor under Part 2, item “c” of Article 112 of the RF Penal Code.

The court and investigators have revealed that from September 2015 to April 2016, Bazhenov was living with a woman and her son and systematically beat and tortured the child: he bit, pinched him and poured cold water on him. The boy suffered minor and medium bodily harm and a mental disorder.

The investigators passed on the files regarding the boy’s mother to the guardianship authority. She was deprived of custody and convicted of failure to raise a child and brutal treatment under Article 156 of the RF Criminal Code. At present, the boy lives with his biological father.

The investigators ran 6 DNA tests, two psychiatric evaluations and a forensic medical examination.

The court has sentenced Bazhenov to 7.5 years in a minimum-security correctional facility.
