Probe launched in Lake Ladoga incident in Karelia

The Karelia Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in negligent homicide under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Criminal Code after an incident on Lake Ladoga.

According to investigators, five teenagers arrived in the afternoon from the town of Sortavala, Karelia in the settlement of Impilakhti, Pitkyaranta District. One of the teenagers borrowed from his friend an aluminum motor boat. The teenagers went sailing to the Impilakhti Bay in Lake Ladoga without life jackets.

At some point, the boat capsized leaving all five of them in water. Two of the teenagers survived.

Search is now underway for the rest three of the teenagers. Necessary investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
