Gangsters to stand trial for attempts on lives of military

The North Caucasus Federal District Directorate of the Investigative Committee has finished criminal proceedings against residents of Stavropol Territory Faizbek Amangaziyev and Arslan Valiyev. They are charged with membership in a gang under Part 2 of Article 209 and attempt on the life of military servants under Article 317 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, on 29 February 2000, being part of a gang led by Basayev and Khattab , Amangaziyev and Valiyev took part in the attack on military servants of company 6 of regiment 76 of Pskov Division of Air Force Troops in forest and mountain area near the settlement of Ulus-Kert, Shatoi District, Chechnya. They attacked from three sides, with Amangaziyev and Valiyev shooting 5.45mm Kalashnikov submachine guns at soldiers. The attack continued until the morning of 1 March. 84 soldiers were killed, four more wounded.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case with the signed indictment has been referred to court.

Earlier, 8 more assailants, including Ukrainian Alexander Malofeyev, a member of UNA UNSO, were sentenced to long prison terms.
