In Krasnoyarsk Territory, negligence probe launched against head of Kansk

The Krasnoyarsk Territory Office of the Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against Nadezhda Kachan, head of the town of Kansk, suspected of negligence entailing damage on a very large scale under Part 1.1 of Article 293 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to preliminary information, being aware that there are a lot of dumps with lumber waste in Northwestern industrial district of Kansk, Kachan failed to take steps to get enough funding for proper land control, to file with the Kansk town council and senior officials of municipalities a draft plan for prevention of possible fires on that kind of dumps, to provide proper cooperation between municipal facilities to deal with the situation, ignored several decisions issued by the town court and orders of inspectorates to remove the dumps.

As a result of casual handling the lumber waste caught fire on 7 May 2017, and the fire then spread to several industrial areas and caused a damage of over 67 million rubles. The situation became possible because of negligent and careless attitude of the suspect to her duties.

At present, the investigators are looking in all the circumstances surrounding the crime. The investigation continues.
