Buryatia investigators look into helicopter incident

The East Siberian Transport Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in violation of safety standards for traffic and operation of an aircraft entailing death of a person under Part 2 of Article 263 of the RF Criminal Code after an emergency landing of a Bell 206 helicopter in Okinsky District, Buryatia.

According to investigators, on the morning of 5 July 2017, the Bell 2-6 helicopter owned by a resident of the city of Irkutsk and rented by a local commercial organization made an emergency landing 25 km from Shumak, Okinsky District, Buryatia. The pilot was killed on impact. The helicopter was badly damaged.

At present, investigative operations are underway to find out the reasons for and all the circumstances surrounding the incident. An investigation team is examining the scene together with representatives of IAC (the Interstate Aviation Committee). The investigation continues.
