Three to stand trial for attempted rape of paramedic and death threats

The Saratov Region Office of the Investigative Committee has finished criminal proceedings against three residents of the town of Saratov charged with attempted rape under part 3 of Article 30 – Part 3, item “b” of Article 131 and threats to kill under Part 1 of Article 119 of the RF Criminal Code committed against a female paramedic.

On the afternoon of 11 February 2017, the paramedic arrived to a flat in Shelkovichnaya Street in the town of Saratov to help a 41-year-old man complaining about high blood pressure. Besides the said man, there were four more men in the flat.

According to investigators, after the paramedic entered the flat, the 44-year-old owner of the flat closed the door behind her and said that he wouldn’t let her out. The frightened paramedic went to a bathroom and managed to report the situation to a dispatcher of an ambulance service, who then passed the information to the police. The paramedic had to leave the bathroom when the men started threatening her with violence. Two of the men started trying to rape the woman and threatening to kill her. The men’s actions were broken off by the police who promptly arrived at the scene.

In addition, the supposed to be a patient man threated to kill the woman if she told anything to the police.

During the initial investigation that man was the only one making confessions and giving evidence against his accomplices. This helped the investigators build a version in the shortest possible time, though later the three men denied the charges and said they had had nothing to do with the crime. The investigators’ version was confirmed by the evidence given by eye-witnesses and the paramedic’s colleagues. Additionally, according to the results of one of many forensic examinations ran, the bruises on the woman’s arm were given to her during the rape attempt. This way, the investigators carried out more than 30 interrogations of the victim, accused and witnesses, more than 6 seizures and examinations of the crime scene, ordered at least 12 forensic examinations, all this making up 7 case files.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case with the signed indictment has been referred to court.
