Investigative Committee’s Chairman orders Central Office to check impartiality of investigation against police officers

Citizens have asked the Chairman of the Investigative Committee via social media to sort out a criminal investigation opened against police officers who protected their legal rights and interests. Related publications and coverage in media also had wide public resonance.

Two cases are in question. Namely, in October, a police officer prevented administrative offence of a drunk man in eastern Administrative District of the capital city. The policeman’s actions were classified by investigators of a division of the Investigative Committee’s Moscow Directorate as abuse of power and a court placed the police officer in custody pending trial. The second similar criminal case is being tried by the court.

Alexander Bastrykin ordered the Central Office to immediately request the files of both cases, look into them carefully, check if the procedural decisions made, including those of opening criminal investigations, were legal.
